Luis Casas aka Mr MYL is a multitalented visual artist from Havana Cuba. He graduated from the University of Arts (ISA - Havana) and the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts. He has been making traditional fine art and street art for over a decade.
A prolific artist, his art is not bound by one style. His influences are limitless and believes open minded versatility is essential to creativity. Yet, there is always a Cuban subtext to his work as his cultural roots are the essence of his being. He hopes his art, in particular his street murals, encourages a profound social, political and artistic discourse. Pioneer of the Cuban graffiti and street art movement in Havana, Mr MYL continuously enables and collaborates with countless artists local and worldwide. International artists have been traveling for years for the opportunity to paint alongside him in the streets of Havana.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Mr MYL perceives his work as a process; they say that the artist's job is to live life and make that experience an artistic practice. His main influences are contextual and historical, mostly the mystical history, of ritual, of magic. He's interested in the connection between art and magic. He explores visual references in original practices. His current fixation are artifacts of African tribes and indigenous people of the Americas.
In contemporary life there is a tendency to polarization that ends up dividing and distancing us from the possibility of developing a spiritual connection that allows us to enjoy the experience of life. It is a constant battle to live with courage, to practice a liberating and healing art.
